Mawhinney, a founding member of the firm, concentrates his practice on civil litigation, residential real estate and Immigration and Nationality Law. He has tried cases before the Federal District Court, the Superior Court, the Workers' Compensation Commission, Housing Court, the Claims Commission, and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
As a trial lawyer he has represented clients pursuing personal injury claims, has brought actions on clients' behalf for breach of contract, violations of the Home Improvement Act, the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act, defamation, negligence, and construction disputes, including mechanics liens.
As an immigration attorney, Kent provides legal services and counsel to both large and small businesses enabling them to secure essential employees in a wide array of fields including computer technology, research and engineering. He also represents individuals in their efforts to reunify their families in the United States and to become citizens.
Kent received his Bachelors of Science Degree with distinction from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, graduating with a double major in finance and entrepreneurial studies. In 1990 he graduated cum laude from Western New England College School of Law and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals.
Kent has been active in numerous civic organizations, including acting as legal counsel for the Greater Hartford Jaycees in 1999, its Foundation in 2000 and providing legal counsel to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, the Remodeling Contractor's Association and other civic organizations.
